Rev. Gilmore accepted the Lord at the age of 19 and was baptized in Keflavic, Iceland. A native of Manhasset, NY, he accepted his calling into the ministry in 1978 and in 1979 was licensed to preach the gospel by the late Rev. Dr. Eugene Pryor, Pastor of the Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church of Jacksonville, FL. While serving at Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church, he worked as a Sunday School teacher, Chairman of Christian Education and Minister of Church & Christian Outreach.
In the summer of 1980, he moved to Vallejo, CA, where he joined the Second Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Fleetwood E. Irving. While at Second Baptist Church, Rev. Gilmore served faithfully as Minister of Christian Education, New Member Orientation Teacher and Brotherhood Bible Instructor. He was ordained by Pastor Irving in 1982.
In 1988 Rev. Gilmore married La Tonya V. Renfro and has three children: Erica, Zachary, and Isaiah. Rev. and Mrs. Gilmore joined the New Providence Baptist Church of San Francisco, CA, under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. C.E. Scott in 1989, where Rev. Gilmore worked diligently, serving as Sunday School teacher, Bible Study Instructor, Chairman of Christian Education and Assistant Pastor.
In March of 1999, at the passing of Rev. C. E. Scott, Rev. Gilmore was installed as Pastor of the New Providence Baptist Church and continues to serve there. His favorite passage of scripture is 1st Corinthians 2:1-5.
Rev. Gilmore’s goal for the membership of New Providence is to ensure that all who attend there are Biblically knowledgeable, spiritually led, and devoted to finishing the work that Jesus the Christ has left for The Church to do.
Rev. Gilmore has a passion for assisting younger ministers in their spiritual growth and development as future leaders and teachers within the faith community. He is actively involved with the San Francisco Interfaith Council, San Francisco Baptist Ministers Conference (where he serves as Bible Teacher), and Progressive Baptist Missionary Educational District Association (where he has served as Congress Dean and Lecturer).
