Elder Shirley Freeman, Assistant Pastor
Email: shirleyadoz@gmail.com

Elder Shirley Freeman is a native of New Orleans and long time San Francisco resident. She is married and the mother of one adult son.

In May 1997, she organized the Daughters of Zion Women’s Ministries, an inter-denominational, multi-cultural organization that exists to equip and empower women to enhance the lives of others through Christ-centered teaching. The ministry is guided by Titus 2:3-5 which urges older women to instruct younger women. Weekly Bible studies, intercessory prayers, leadership seminars, retreats and luncheons accomplish this objective.

She has been blessed by the tutelage of Reverend Steven A. Bailey, pastor of Olivet Baptist Church of San Francisco, where she served for twelve years. During those years she served as Spiritual Advisor and teacher to the Young Women’s  and Matrons Ministries, Minister of Education, and Sunday School/Vacation Bible School teacher.  Pastor Bailey licensed her in the ministry and continues to encourage and support her.

Elder Freeman is presently serving on the ministerial staff of New Providence Baptist Church where she continues to grow under the capable leadership of Pastor Michael Gilmore. Her service now includes ministering in the pulpit, teaching the New Members Orientation Class, the Deaconess Ministry and presiding over the Daughters of Zion’s weekly Bible studies. Moved by the Holy Spirit, Pastor Gilmore began preparing her for ordination in 2009. After completing the requirements, she was ordained in October 2011.

Elder Freeman has a charge to encourage women to  grow in their relationship with the Lord, to commit to the local church and to discover and use their spiritual gift(s) to serve others. Her favorite scripture is Proverbs 3:5-6 which reads: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not to your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path.
